Launch of European Maritime Fisheries Fund
The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) has opened the European Maritime Fisheries Fund (EMFF) for applications in England. The scheme should bring much needed benefits to the fisheries and aquaculture sectors as well as coastal communities. Key areas of focus for the funding are to help the fishing industry to adapt to the reformed Common Fisheries Policy as well as supporting the competitiveness of the sector.

North-South divide in small business confidence
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has released findings that shows a growing gap in confidence between businesses in Scotland, North East England and Wales and those in the Midlands and the South of England. Wind power provides 41% of Scotland’s electricity needs
Analysis by WWF Scotland of data provided by WeatherEnergy has found that for the month of December, wind turbines alone provided around 1,352,399MWh of electricity to the National Grid, enough to supply, on average, the electrical needs of 148% of Scottish households. Business activity continues to rise
Private sector business activity rose across England and Wales during the final month of 2015, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Regional Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI). The pace of expansion was solid, though marginally slower than in November. Farmers hit by Storm Eva flooding in Lancashire and Yorkshire will receive emergency funding of up to £20,000 each Environment Secretary, Elizabeth Truss, has announced.
