ScottishPower drops Argyll windfarm plans

ScottishPower Renewables (SPR) has confirmed that it will not be taking forward plans to develop the Argyll Array Offshore Windfarm in the near future.

The company has been working on the project since 2009 but ground conditions at the site, particularly the presence of hard rock, and challenging wave conditions that could impact construction have proved too worrying.

Added to this this, there is a significant presence of basking sharks, which environmental groups continue to study to get a greater understanding of their movements in the area.

The 300-turbine  project may be viable as offshore wind technology develops in the longer term, but SPR estimates this will not be within the next decade.
