  • Private sector growth picks up

    Private sector growth picked up pace in the three months to December, according to the CBI’s latest Growth Indicator, the final one of 2016. The survey of 788 respondents across the manufacturing, distribution and service sectors showed that growth climbed to a balance of +17%, its highest in a year.

  • Risks to UK growth tilted to the downside

    The CBI says it expects UK economic growth to rally in the second quarter of 2015 after a "surprisingly soft" increase of 0.3% during the first three months of the year.     UK economic activity increased at the fastest pace in four months, according to the latest Growth Indicator from the CBI. The survey of 769 businesses across the retail, manufacturing and services sectors revealed that growth rose at a solid pace in the three months to January, with a balance of +23 compared with +14 in December, following slowing momentum over the second half of 2014.   • Solid outlook for UK manufacturers

    Activity in the manufacturing sector remained steady in December and production is expected to continue rising in the next three months, according to the latest CBI Industrial Trends Survey. Output growth has been broadly steady since August, and has remained above average this month. Amongst the various sectors, growth in Motor Vehicles & Transport Equipment rose to a nine-month high.     Business activity in the UK service sector improved over the three months to May and optimism rose, according to latest research from the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
